Rifle High School is “Bridging the Gaps with education, leadership and service.”
Bridging the Gaps is an extension of Rifle High School. Therefore, Bridging the Gaps, like RHS is a non-profit organization. Due to limited space and funds, interested students must apply to be a part of this intensive, two-week credit recovery program. The program consists of online course work, reading intervention, community service and outdoor leadership activities. Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn a semester’s worth of PE and elective leadership credit. In addition, by completing online lessons through OdysseyWare students have the opportunity to recover credits they need to graduate from RHS.
In the absence of conventional summer school, 2012 will be the inaugural year for the Bridging the Gaps Summer Program. The idea for such a program evolved over the last year. Initially, the creators of Bridging the Gaps began a running club in Cottonwood Park outside of Rifle. Voluntarily, dedicated students met the leaders twice a week at six o’clock am, rain, wind, cold, or shine. Participants ran 3 miles each day. After running, granola bars, water and hot chocolate were provided. Anyone could join, you just had to be “Rifle Tough.” By running together, great relationships were forged and wonderful memories formed. The need, however for a credit recovery program was very present and so the program was born.
